swaying, whipping in the tide
your corners curved around my spine
cracked and dashed against the cliffs
perhaps i'm wrong, perhaps we missed

perhaps we're whirling down the drain
perhaps the greatest hurricane
a boat, so fragile, paper, wood
fueled by dreams of life is good

and lost, we wonder, in the depths
what memories of love are left
the waves undress the shifting sand
as we touch toes upon the land

you speed away, your sails aloft
your image stays, but at what cost?
the haze that hangs along the sky
and filters sunbeams from my eyes

i still see your reflection there
treading water in thin air
like all my life just washed away
in waiting for a perfect day
