Hey y'all, sorry for the long absence. I got really, rip-roaringly sick with some kind of cold/flu thing and then managed to contract food poisoning (thanks so fucking much, Starkist albacore pouches) on top of that, all while trying to finish a big (7 hours of videotape) freelance transcription job. So I did almost no work last week and just last night finished a 6-day spree of typing and not playing with the kids and not cooking and more typing and not getting to bed before 1 AM. Hellooooo carpal tunnel!
...No wonder I can't shake this cough.
And now, while I recover and catch up on my flist, some memes for you.
First, from the devilishly snarky and devastatingly good-looking
Gadge Cubic, Mole Preener, 6 weird things about me:
1. Once I went to a museum where there was an ancient Egyptian exhibit and there was a mummy and it made me so sad. I mean, here this poor guy thought he was going to have eternal life with hot linen-clad girlfriends and really good food and all the Nile fishing you could want and what did it get him? He's in a glass case. So I bent close to his glass case and whispered, "I'm sorry," before leaving the room.
2. I like collecting small boxes. Make of that what you will.
3. My first husband used to call me a salt vampire because I really enjoy foods like salted plums and salt & vinegar chips. Yeah, a salt vampire. You know, from Star Trek TOS. And yet he wonders why I left him.
4. On the morning after a rain, I will often waste 5 to 10 minutes picking up all the stranded worms on the sidewalk around me and putting them back on the grass in hopes they won't be dried-out crispy critters by noon. Dried-out crispy critter worms make me sad.
5. Sometimes when I feel stressed out I tear paper up into little pieces.
6. I always sleep with a glass of water on the nightstand but I never drink it, and the first thing I do in the morning is pour it out. My mother always made me do this because she honestly believes that your soul will wander during the night if you don't have some water nearby to anchor it to you. I figure it's probably not true, but why take chances?
And now, a Trek meme, courtesy of
chvickers. Serious geek advisory.
FAVORITE THINGS:
Star Trek Series: DS9, easily. No contest.
Star Trek Movie: Star Trek 5. No, really. Hey! Where are you going? Come baaaaaaaack!
Star Trek Character: Spock. What can I say? I have a thing for smart Jewish guys.
Star Trek Pairing: Just about anybody with Bashir. He is, as
kassrachel says about Mal in Firefly, the little black dress of DS9 slash.
Alien Race: Ferengi. Hey, somebody has to like them.
Alien World: Risa. Now where's that hor'gahn?
Federation Class Starship: The Defiant. Dude! It's got a cloaking device. I rest my case.
TOS Episode: "For the World Is Hollow and I Have Touched The Sky." But that's just for the title.
TNG Episode: "Tapestry." It reminds me that playing it safe isn't always the best way to go.
DS9 Episode: "Our Man Bashir." See above icon.
VOY Episode: I haven't seen too many of these yet but I really liked "Meld," featuring the legendary Brad Dourif as Starfleet's oldest-ever ensign, a psychotic Betazoid who for some reason isn't able to do that emotion-sensing thing.
ENT Episode: Haven't seen enough of these to make a decision.
Star Trek Quote: "Could you please continue your petty bickering? I find it intriguing." --Data
LEAST FAVORITE THINGS:
Star Trek Series: So far, it's "Enterprise." Sorry,
babel! Captain Quantum just doesn't do it for me. But they're showing it on SciFi now so I have more chances to watch it and see if my opinion changes.
Star Trek Movie: Star Trek IV. I like whales, just not on the Enterprise.
Star Trek Character: Wesley Crusher, the original Marty Stu.
Star Trek Pairing: Ezri/Julian. She should totally be with Quark.
Race: Nausicaans. "Play dom-jot, hu-mon!" WTF?
Alien World: Ferenginar. I like rainy days, but come on.
Federation Class Starship: Don't know. They're all pretty good.
TOS Episode: "Shore Leave." I demand to know why Finnegan wasn't Section Eighted out of Starfleet Academy.
TNG Episode: "Code of Honor," which probably set race relations back about 20 years. White man's burden, indeed.
DS9 Episode: "Prodigal Daughter." Seriously, I couldn't care less about the Tigan family drama. Oh wait, I could. But then I'd be dead.
VOY Episode: Not sure yet.
ENT Episode: Will have to get back to you on this one, although "Bound" certainly was el stinko.
Star Trek Quote: "Are you saying I'm drunk? I feel strange, but also good." --Wesley Crusher
CHOICES:
Trekkie or Trekker? Trekkie. I kick it old school.
Kirk or Picard? Kirk. He might not have been as smart but he got laid regularly.
Defiant or Delta Flyer? Defiant.
Tribbles or Targs? Targs; at least you can eat them if things get tough.
Coffee, Black or Tea, Earl Grey? Tea.
Porthos or Spot? Porthos; I'm allergic to cats. Although I guess you could get some kind of wonder drug for that in the 24th century.
EMH or Data? EMH. Data gets taken over too often, he's a big clunky security risk.
Pah-wraiths or Prophets? Prophets.
