No Quick Fixes. (Unpopular Opinion Advisory)

Let me make one thing perfectly clear.

As a mother of two young children, I am saddened and angered by the rape and murder of Chelsea King. I am sorry for the incalculable loss her family has suffered.

But at the same time, I cannot agree with the current mob mentality of "This is because Megan's Law failed! Let's make Megan's Law tougher!"

ATTENTION AMERICA. Laws don't keep children safe, parents keep children safe. You can't legislate away parental responsibility. No law is going to make it perfectly safe for young girls to walk across long stretches of street alone or jog around wooded areas alone when it's still dark out.

Megan's Law was meant to keep parents informed so that they could be more watchful of their children, not for them to march in mobs on registered offenders' houses (which I have seen done) so that they are forced away...either to another community, or to homelessness, which means, surprise! They're off the grid and good luck keeping track of them then.

This world is imperfect. There are sick people. We cannot control or destroy them all because there are always going to be the ones who just haven't been caught yet. Watch your kids.
