I've been reading a lot of books lately, but I have been quite taken with Libba Bray's young adult Gemma Doyle trilogy. My interest was piqued by the cover for a long time:
Thanks! I think I finally kicked that nasty cold. You inspired my post about this; I had been planning to write about how wonderful it was to have "Rebel Angels" with me on Thursday and how I hadn't felt that sad to finish a book in a long time, and when I read your entry, it really reminded me. It's funny, even Andrew said the cover was pretty cool not knowing what it was.
The fantasy world is pretty much a perfect blend of the dark and mysterious with the fanciful. I love the fact that just as the girls get some of their most ardent desires to come true in the realms, they also see some of the most gruesome monsters and traits in themselves. I really appreciated that, and it feels like what real magic would feel like--scary and unstable and still wonderful at times.
It's funny that you mention "Blood and Chocolate" ---I haven't read it, but just finished "Silver Kiss" which I believe is the same author's first novel. It is a little clunky at times, despite being a YA classic, but I still enjoyed it and definitely want to check out "Blood and Chocolate"---it seems I've only heard good things about it.
