If I didn't no better, I'd say you have a secret pairing...LOL Just kidding. I think...
"Damn Kazon," Janeway muttered under her breath. With the constant attacks over their first few weeks in the Delta Quadrant, they hadn't been able to stop to fully recover. Now she was stuck in a turbolift.
"Ma'am?" Lieutenant Ayala asked.
She side-eyed him. "I prefer captain."
"Right. Captain." He shifted on his heels.
"I guess there's nothing we can do but wait." Janeway punctuated her statement with a sigh. "Relax. We're not going anywhere for a while."
Ayala's shoulders drooped a bit, but he stayed standing while she took a seat on the floor. Her feet were killing her. Damn boots.
"Ever been stuck in a turbolift before?" she asked. It was a lame question, but she wasn't sure what else to lead with. She knew virtually nothing about him other than he'd never been Starfleet and he'd been with the Maquis.
His shoulders tensed again. "Once."
"Boring, that's for sure."
The lieutenant didn't respond. In fact, he looked a bit green around the gills. Kathryn frowned.
"Was it a bad experience? I have a few suggestions for dealing with anxiety." She stood back up. The last thing she needed was him having a panic attack on her because he had a fear of small spaces.
"No ma'am...er...captain. It was...it was just...I had just met my wife..." He was clearly flustered and when he coughed into his hand, a realization dawned on Janeway.
"Oh," she answered, pressing her lips tightly together. "Well, lieutenant...I uh..." It had gotten very awkward very fast. Why the hell wasn't the lift moving?!
LOL. People and their secret soft-spot pairings. You should jump into one of the secret exchanges on VAMB some time. You never know what you might get ;)
Actually I have participated in all Secret Exchanges on VAMB in the recent years. The Secret Summer is the first exchanges I am not doing since...2007 (I think), due to not having enough time and due to the fact that my muse and I are not exactly on speaking terms right now.
But these exchanges are always fun and I hope I'll get around for the Secret Santa this year.
