By the by, I've added you. And yes, you are quite right, the urge to consume for status alone is the quintessential indicator of having affluenza. My father has a version of "there's always a bigger fish" that goes "there's always Bill Gates". When that's the goal, pretty much everyone on the planet is set up to fail... including Warren Buffet and that, just seems ridiculous. At what point did everyone decide that being a millionaire wasn't the standard to be measured by & stressful enough? And when in the world did multi-millionaire become de classe?

I recall a few years ago that everyone was on a jag about purchasing islands and I thought it was a bit strange. Islands! I mean, where do you go from that? The greater solar system? Hell, it's probably being vetted by Richard Branson right now. Geez.

In light of your experiences, I look forward to your observations and pov. I completely agree with your estimation of your fellow classmates level of ennui & general malaise. Can't wait to discuss that in more detail. And three cheers for scholarship students! Often smarter than the legacies coming in and most likely living happier lives going out. The "usual contingent" that you've described doesn't usually lend itself to being inclusive... or for cultivating the truly unique individual. Sad, really. But I hope you were with the outliers and found lifelong friends and kindred spirits among them.

Anyway, it is strange for me and frustrating. I love my friends but they don't care about such things. And it also seems not to have dawned on anyone that there was no certificate of entitlement issued when any of us was born. Nothing more than sheer natural selection was responsible for us being born to our parents. Doesn't sound like a guarantee of a charmed life to me. Well, I've gone on enough for a bit. I'm going to turn in.
