I remember the first time anyone told me that there was Harry Potter fanfic, and that it was available at the pit of voles, which at the time was still known as fanfiction.net, or ffn. I knew about fanfic, but I hadn't realized that you could write it about books. I thought it was mainly a TV thing. And I had never heard of fanfiction.net before.
The first time I checked out the Books section, there were more Animorphs fics than Harry Potter ones. Animorphs had more than a thousand, and Harry Potter had 912. I was like, "912 fanfics! How will I ever find the time to read them all?"
Today I went over to see how many Harry Potter stories are there now. The answer is 389,152.
