Today's Letter to Garrison Keillor

Dec 22, 2009 11:17

Dear Mr. Keillor:

I am shocked and appalled by your recent Christmas column in the Chicago Tribune. This time of year is for all religions, cultures and forms of music to come together.

Discounting the Christmas contributions of great Jewish songwriters of the 20th century (among them Irving Berlin) is not only short-sighted, but the kind of anti-Semitic drivel that I would expect from the lesser writings of Richard Wagner.

To make matters worse, your cheeseball insults directed at Jews, pagans, druids and those who celebrate any of the holidays that come at this time of year have made me decide, after a lifetime of listening to your wonderful radio programs, to not only cease listening to you on NPR, but to take a framing hammer to the compact discs of your show that I have wasted hard-earned money on over the years. I think the movie is going straight into New York Harbor.

I hope that your Christmas celebrations this year are merry, and that your ears are not offended by the strains of "Hark! The Herald Angels Sing." After all, Felix Mendelssohn was the son of a rabbi.

Go to hell.
