The House of the Owls is Changing Addresses

I haven't written much about this on here but those of you who know me know that I inherited a summer house four years ago when my Mom died--a house up in the Lake Mohawk section of Sparta. NJ. This has caused all kinds of complications (not to mention expenses!) and last fall we decided to sell it to my neighbor. That's coming along and we are in contract.

Othello and Desdemona.

What's really good though is that yesterday we brought home boxes and boxes of my father's figurine collection--with some contributions from my Mom and my Grandma. We now have in our home an enormous foot high 18" long Lladro sculpture of Othello, (about to smother Desdemona) a large collection of Royal Doultons from the small ("This Little Pig") to the enormous, ("The Old King", "The Flower Seller's Children".) The collection also includes famous figures from fiction and history like Omar Khayyam, Jack Falstaff and Bluebeard. Traditionally, he's put next to "Votes for Women." Dad had an evil sense of humor. Also now in our house: my dad's Toby Jug collection, and assorted Lladros, Royal Copenhagens and a few Hummels.

Some of the Royal Doultons.

Although it was a hassle getting them home, it was also important to have them. These were among my parents' most treasured possessions and it's good to have them here "living" in the china cabinet from my Mom's apartment. They look pretty good--though over time we'll probably thin out the collection a bit. Some of the figures are worth a bit, and times are tight.

Anyway it was good to go to the house, check in with my buyer and start to pack up items of great sentimental value that are in the house's many cabinets and cubbies.

And yes, the next time that we have visitors to our Brooklyn home, they just might be invited to count the owls.

All for now,

P
