Top Ten List: Top Ten Songs for Boxing Day
Today is Boxing Day, the traditional day-after-Christmas holiday celebrated in the UK and Canada, where masters and servants switch roles for the day and stores have blowout ("box") sales to clear their Christmas inventory. It's kind of like Black Friday without the death!
With that in mind here's ten pugilistic pangyrics--songs to knuckle down with for Boxing Day cheer.
- "The Boxer"--Simon and Garfunkel
- "A Box"--King's X
- "Cut My Hair"--The Who (from Quadrophenia as in: "My mother found a box of blues")
- "Punch and Judy" by Marillion
- "Jawbreaker" by Judas Priest
- "Eye of the Tiger"--Survivor (the theme from Rocky III)
- "Silver and Gold"--U2 ("The prize fighter in the corner is told, "Hit where it hurts" for silver and gold.") Not to be confused with the Burl Ives Christmas song for Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer.
- "Mama Said Knock You Out"--L.L. Cool J
- "Living In America"--James Brown (from Rocky IV
- "One Hit (To the Body)" by the Rolling Stones.
Ding! ding!
Merry Boxing Day, folks.
