The Red Right Hand (of Doom)

Finally saw The Further Adventures of Big Red (aka Hellboy II: The Golden Army with green_kohai and motorhead5. It is in fact better than the first one. HB's relationship with Liz should be mandatory viewing for anybody in a relationship. Doug Jones gives a really strong performance as Abe Sapien, ditto Seth "Family Guy" McFarlane doing a note-perfect Prussian accent as the German bodiless medium, Johann Kraus.

Guillermo del Toro and Mike Mignola really let their imaginations go wild, the result is a baroque superhero horror movie with genuinely scary moments, which at times looks like a monster movie directed by Zhang Yimou. Gorgeous and disturbing images aplenty, from a scary tooth fairy sequence to the Angel of Death. (Thats him in the picture.) But I won't spoil it more. Go to the movies and get your ass kicked if you haven't done it already.

Wow. Thanks to gk for getting me out of the house, out of depression, and to the best movie I have seen this summer.

In other news, got some important business dealings done today which mean I have less debt but also less ready cash. (hence the depression.) Sigh. At least I'm taking care of some outstanding property taxes--I hadn't realized just HOW outstanding they were until I went to pay the bloody things. We are belt tightening, and took the subway home to Brooklyn tonight, running into my old friend Kenny Pierce and talking rock'n'roll as the train zipped past the Troll Market.

Going back to getting ready for the football draft on Sunday--the spreadsheets are almost ready, not quite.

Back to work
