All Are Punished

After concluding a small but important quest with my school friend Gennadiy we ended up at Old Bethpage Restoration Village in Long Island. Its an open air museum where Long Islanders drag their old houses to be displayed when upgrading their living quarters to McMansions.

I needed to take some photos of ye olde houses for my previous post about Battle of Long Island so I roamed around the museum grounds looking for an apple orchard I recall being there.

I have not been there in over a decade. But nothing changes in a history museum in a decade. I walked the same gravel paths among the same old houses. While walking from general store recreation to a hatter’s workshop, I recalled that a movie based on one of the Palahniuk books was shot in Old Bethpage.

The movie was called Choke.

I saw that movie primarily not for snappish Palahniuk prose, or mellow Sam Rockwell’s acting, but because Radiohead was on the soundtrack.

And that memory really took me on a trip down the history lane. More than a decade before Choke, Radiohead made a song available to another soundtrack - Baz Luhrmann’s Rome + Juliet. And that song was so right for the movie, in such contrast to the colorful extravaganza of the movie sequence.

Radiohead will perform on the openning episode of this fall's SNL season. SNL studios are so cold. Colder than Langone's ER room. Bring a sweater. And if I can offer you one piece of advice for the future, sunscrean would be it.

palahniuk, obrv, radiohead
