If you haven't heard, Episode III of the Star Wars prequels has acquired a name. That's right, in May of '05 we'll all be going to see Revenge of the Sith. The name seems to be a throwback to Return of the Jedi, which was originally titled Revenge of the Jedi. Boy, I have fond memories of my youth and Star Wars. Episode I, of course, was doomed to fail from the massive hype engine; and, while not spectacular, was in keeping with the campy feel from the original series. Episode II was generally a rollicking good time if for no reason other than that scene when Yoda totally goes medieval with the lightsaber. I remember leaving the theater after seeing Episode II and proclaiming that the rest of the movie could have consisted of nothing more than clowns riding bicycles and I would have been content with my purchase. Star Wars had such a huge effect on my childhood. One of my fondest memories was when we went to see the opening of one of the special editions and Ben wore the Star Wars pizza box. Guys, you remember when we used to say that we'd all meet up during finals time somewhere and see the prequels together? Must be Jake's fault...damn joining the Army and going to Germany....
Big news for the Twins this last week, as they swept the White Sox in convincing and dramatic fashion. The Twins have a horrific stretch coming up in their schedule: something like 25 of 30 of their upcoming games are against teams over .500. I absolutely cannot wait for Sunday's game, which pits our very own Johan Santana vs. Pedro Martinez of the Red Sox in what is surely one of the best matchups of year. There's no way I'm missing that one. July 31st is the trading deadline, and it's looking increasingly like Doug Mientkiewicz isn't going anywhere, and was simply overreacting in his loveably neurotic way. And, of course, Vikings training camp opens tomorrow, which should give all the Minnesotans something to talk about for the next six months.
Work has been tough, as I've been fighting equipment failures and bad data. I'm not sure if I'm going to get any results, but hey, you can't build two entire laboratory apparatuses and develop multiple software interfaces over two summers and feel bad about it. At least I'm not going to. It's all going to be done in exactly one week, which will leave me a whole month to spend some time at the cabin, go camping, travel to Madison and maybe Michigan, see some more Twins games, bike, soak in some sun, and generally relax. I'm pumped. But first, I'm hungry.
