money/lunch

Thinking about lunch money. Seriously boring if you aren't me, but I didn't feel like making it private :p

This week I decided to do sandwiches for lunch, in a bid to save. However, I used higher quality ingredients than I would've done if I'd have bought shop-bought sandwiches. Let's see if it's cheaper than subway though:

0.64 cucumber
0.20 tomatoes
1.39 bread
1.69 ham
0.99 cheese
0.99 watercress
5.90 total for 3 lunches, with extra bread for breakfasts and a bit of salad left. So only cheaper than subway by 7p! (I buy either the sub of the day or the veggie sub if the SOTD is high fat.)

Bread, ham and cheese were all costly.

Could do:

0.75 ordinary wholemeal bread
0.55 basics tuna
0.25 worth of lite mayo from jar I already have
0.64 cucumber
0.99 watercress
2.93 total. Would be 3.38 if I used hummus* (and made it last for 3 lunches). Even cheaper if I made butter bean paste, lentil patè or peas pudding.

It'd also be nice and cheap if I made flapjacks. Nice peanut butter, golden syrup, oats, or cheap peanut butter with oats and no sweetener. Could even do a chocolate coating!

* I don't want to make hummus myself. I find if I buy a jar of tahini it goes off before I get a chance to use it, unless I'm bingeing on it.
