Apparently Patient Records are under the really stupid impression that in order for them to change the name they have for you, you have to

a) have SRS (lol, 'the operation', lol)
b) are then able to get a Deed Poll

WTFFF?

According from Alison from PALS, 'this is how it works in practice'. What, you mean this is how they discriminate against people in practice? Yeah, it flipping is!!

When Alison calls me next (she's going to speak to my GP practice), I'm going to ask her who said this, and how can I contact them. This is such flipping rubbish!

Edit: apparently my surgery is in Westminster (although it takes Camden patients too) so I have to deal with another lot of PALS.

Name Changing on Personal Documents: A Guide For Organisations. It says in that linked to document that trans people are 'advised to obtain a letter from their doctor in which the doctor confirms their gender role change and states that the change is intended to be permanent.' to get gender markers changed. It doesn't say that is an obligation though. My next appointment at the gender clinic is on 1st September, I'll get that sorted then. Meanwhile, I am going to write to Camden Patient Data because they have given PALS incorrect information, and appear to be acting in a discriminatory manner.

And relax.
