Today I went on the birdwatching walk that meets at the Parliament Hill Fields cafe at 10 am. It's a really friendly group. We had a slow stroll up to Kenwood House, looking at birds. I don't have any binoculars, so there were many birds I didn't see. Birds of note that we saw: various tits, a chaffinch, a pair of parakeets, some cormorants, and a great spotted woodpecker. The woodpecker was the most exciting. Of course there were ducks, swans, moorhen and coots on the ponds. At one point, one of the women put some seeds and grain on the top of some fence posts, and we stopped to watch the great tits feeding off it. Then we saw some mandarin ducks mating, which was rather amusing. We finished our walk at Kenwood House where we got some hot drinks and chatted, the non-smokers (myself included) sitting together outside. I got round to talking about my fascination for London bus routes/numbers, and one of the guys, a model railway buff, assured me that I'm not the only one.

I intend to buy myself some cheap binoculars and attend next week. Very pleasant way to start the day.
