Goofing off.

“We need your help.” Lord Kaelen seems to blurt. Well, it's about time he started answering all of Lex's awkward questions. “...Or we will, someday. In a manner of speaking.”

“Some day you'll need my help?” Lex is understandably incredulous. Even indicating himself in the most worthless gestures he can muster.  “Me? Someone even the mother nebula had no use for, when she seems content to allow demons and Serdra to so happily populate the hell dimensions?”

“You're more important.. I mean..” The angel starts to pace the hotel room. Lex lowers his eyes, now concerned he's made his Lordship angry. “Lex. Stop doing that, and fucking look at me. I can't explain it all yet, but I promise I'm all over this. You have to trust me.”

The wraith nods, slowly. “I'll try.” The voice is smaller, and less filled with respect than he intended.

“It'll be okay.” Kaelen moves to put a hand on his shoulder, and then, thankfully seems to think better of it. Lex is inordinately grateful. “You're officially under my protection. In the meantime, you'll need some stuff.” Kaelen pulls open the bag he has with him. Inside there are things. Clean, new clothing, shoes, and a few other bits and pieces. One of which is a wallet.

Lex hasn't seen the wallet, he's too busy backing away.. slowly, towards the door. Kaelen stares at him for a moment, then rolls his eyes.

“No.. Look. No. Not in that way.” He seems to have realised the dubious nature of what it means to be 'under the protection' of one of the gods. It's a thin official veneer for 'this person belongs to me, or more specifically, belongs in my bedchamber'.  Kaelen looks as if he's working hard to maintain every scrap of patience. There's a vein standing out on his temple. “It's nothing to do with that dodgy old euphemism, you have my word. All it means, is I'm responsible for your welfare. Got it?”

“I think so?”

“Well, short of putting it in writing, you're gonna have to take that on trust too. I may have found somewhere better for you to stay, I'll let you know. There's a few flats going, low rent, half-decent. Julian might wanna know about those too. This is cash. I've opened an account for you, so there's a credit card in there too. We'll have to show you how to use it.”

Lex is still struggling with his concerns as the leather wallet is slapped into his hand. He thought this place was nice enough. Despite the fact Julian seems to hate it... Although the couple in the next room could do with managing their passion a touch more quietly.

“There's this too.” Kaelen holds up something that resembles a cellphone.

“I know what those are.” Lex manages, happy not to sound so stupid for once.

“Yeah, it functions as a cellphone alright. But it's home tech. S'got a teleport function, and I'll show you how to use it. I don't want you getting into trouble and not being able to get right out again. Okay?”

“Okay.” Now that. Is useful. Lex is already secretly delighted, though he carefully maintains the quietly obedient exterior.

Once the instruction has been fully received, the bag stowed neatly away, and Lord Kaelen has departed. Lex waits a while. To make sure he doesn't come back with Julian or something.

Then he presses the little buttons with great care, and silently disappears.
