Janie sat on her bench for a few minutes, trying not to cry over what had just happened. Phoenix didn't understand, he didn't want to listen anymore and that broke her heart.
He had to know that she couldn't just leave Vito, not after all he'd done for her. That she couldn't ignore the man who'd helped her when she was at her very lowest. Janie wanted to stay with Phoenix, she wanted that happiness and security, to be with him and with Lynn and Sam, her family.
Maybe... if she got the money together, and paid Vito back, found someone for him that wasn't a complete mess. Then maybe he'd be okay with her leaving... Except she would miss the guy. The guy she meant to use and dump.
Time passed, and before she knew it, the kids were in front of her, asking about dinner, if she was coming to stay, and Janie knew she had to get up.
Taking one of each of their hands, she started the walk home, and chatted with the kids, trying not to let them know she was upset. She liked being with both of them, learning about their lives.
Later, at Phoenix's place, she tried to make dinner for them. It burned, like most things she tried cooking. She tried again, and that burned too, right before Lynn had the idea to order pizza. Janie protested, since it cost more than she could afford, but eventually relented.
The kids were happy, and she had to convince herself that's what mattered- and not that Phoenix still wasn't back. When they finally went to sleep, Janie paced, angrier and angrier at him for still being gone.
Oh, a boyfriend was bad? So was being irresponsible! She wasn't even going to try to clean the pan that she'd ruined earlier. She'd get FIVE boyfriends. Six. As many as it took to let him know just how angry she was.
It was past midnight now, and now her anger had passed. She was just upset. Upset at herself, and her choices, and at Phoenix.
Why had she even run from him in the first place? If only she'd depended on Phoenix for help after that terrible news. Janie spent a couple of hours on the couch crying, wishing he'd return so she could apologize, so she could tell him that she only wanted him, forever and ever. That she'd leave Vito behind.
Then, she realized that Phoenix still wasn't back, and it would be dawn in a short couple of hours.
The kids would wake up and Phoenix wouldn't be back? How would she explain that to them? Did they already know?
Janie didn't want to think about it as she ventured into his bedroom, where everything reminded her of him.
She looked at his clothes, picking out a soft shirt that went perfectly with his hair and eyes, and changed in to it, sniffling at the fact she wouldn't see him again.
The shirt smelled like him. The bed smelled like him. It took just a few minutes and she fell asleep, cuddling his pillow and dreaming about Callista. In the morning he was next to her, asleep, safe. There. So Janie slapped him before getting up.
Ooc: this takes place after the thread where phoenix leaves janie in the park.
