ok so i know a lot of us drive. some of us have been driving for years and we take that for granted. it becomes second nature to us and we don't take it as seriously as we did when we first started. but driving takes so much more than making right turns or parking, it takes judgment and decision-making. i'm not trying to mother anyone. most of you have that in your life but i just wanted to say that we should be more careful on the roads.

please wear your seatbelts. even i sometimes forget to wear it but they really do protect you.

please be alert when you're driving. don't drink or be sleepy. a friend of mine fell asleep at the wheel and totaled his car but thank God he wasn't seriously injured. if you're sleepy then just pull over and sleep. if you're drunk then just wait until you're sober.

don't take serious risks when you're driving like weaving in and out of traffic or things like that. my godbrother was on his motorcycle with a friend and he decided to pass cars in a no-passing lane. he then collided with an suv. his friend died on the scene. he was in a coma for two weeks before passing away three days before christmas.

don't drive distractedly. two uf girls died at the beginning of spring break because the driver behind them was watching the accident that they were driving past instead of watching the road.

and please don't speed. i am most guilty of this. for some of us, it's hard not to speed. everyone else speeds, you want to get to where you're going, and especially for those of us who have long trips to take to get back to school, you feel as if you have to speed. but realize that speed kills and it's simply because the faster you're going, the greater the force at impact. someone i worked with died yesterday because of speeding. she was trying to come back here after spring break.

i'm not saying that doing all this will prevent you from getting in a crash. someone else could crash into you. but it will greatly reduce your risk. and even if you don't care about your own risk, what about everyone else that's driving? sorry to say this, but if you fell asleep at the wheel or you were busy going through your ipod trying to find that one song, and you caused a crash and someone died, do you think you would be okay with that?

i just want for you guys to be safe. i'm going to take my own advice too. life is short and not one of us is invincible. sorry if i depressed anyone but i just felt that it needed to be said.
