If you did'nt catch Penny Arcade's LA performances of "BITCH! DYKE! FAGHAG! WHORE!" at Outfest this weekend, you really missed out. I thought for sure I could help Penny find dancers for these performances in LA, and sadly no one auditioned - but she found some great people to be in the cast after all (it just amazes me that more people were'nt fighting to be part of this spectacular show)! I went to see it Saturday night, which was Penny's 56th birthday, with my lovely boyfriend Jason, and it was so amazing, funny, sad, moving, inspirational...so many words to describe it! We loved it - especially the part when everyone got up to dance on stage with the cast! That made me so happy!!
This show was extra special because the beautiful Kevin Aviance, who got "gaybashed" in NY 4 weeks ago and had his FACE beat in (NEVER touch a queens face, BITCH!) came along to perform with her and by the way he really did look FLAW-LESS and it was a beautiful thing to see this amazing creature up there performing with all his heart and passion... celebrating life and sending out rays of love and hope into the audience of people he'd never met before! He was absolutely FIERCE. Afterwards there was a big party and Kevin sang for his first time since his attack, which was such a magikal experience!
Anyway, as if that wasn't enough of a reason to go to see the show - well, all I can say is you will never experience anything else like this in LA. I love THOSE New Yorkers SO much, and it makes me so happy when THOSE New Yorkers come to LA, where I call it home, and love LIVING! I wish I could just import them all...all the fabulous queens, and other creative gods and goddesses that would BLOW your fucking mind!
THEY are the one thing I miss about NY... but alas - life in LA is good... I just feel like I "fit" here...the work keeps coming and the love and appreciation never stops flowing.
