Agreed to a point, but typically when individuals are discussing issues such as capital punishment or abortion they are discussing how they personally would legislate (i.e. if they were asked to vote on it or vote for a representative who will decide on it.)

I think that far too often we vote from our personal perspective without giving any thought to the actual ramifications of our perspective being nationally legislated. I personally would prefer to see rapists and murderers put to death in the most cruel and unusual manner possible. However this barbarity will only yield more rage in our culture, and the purpose of legislation is to eliminate the rage, not propagate it.

Furthermore, with the existence of a fallible system, with hundreds of cases of proven false arrest and imprisonment I think the virtues of a slightly eased conscience gained from executing murderers are drastically outweighed by the possibility of executing an innocent. Nothing, except debatably peace of mind or vengeful symmetry, is gained from execution, and indeed our national civility, maybe even soul, could be lost with each mistake.

Standing up for ourselves is noble, but standing up for only ourselves, without thought or care towards the impact on our fellow man (or woman), is the worst kind of sin.

well put, mi amigo...pero, i still believe in my points of views...its just too hypocritical to kill a dog that bites a person in self defense and yet not kill a person that strangles, beats, rapes, and then stabs and kills another person just for the heck of it...but i respect your point of view ♥ ~Sam~
