Ooh, you're just the person to ask. Do you know if bees are the only insects that swarm? Because some people thought they were wasps today, and I wasn't sure.
It's not something I know much about - I guess it's something I need to read up on! But a quick mini-research seems to indicate that the Common Wasp in Britain does not swarm; colonies are founded by a single mated queen in spring. (Some tropical wasps apparently do swarm, however...)
Two summers ago my family had a swarm in our garden back in Twickenham. It was extremely exciting - we had to call the police and they put us in touch with some local bee keepers, one of whom came to take it away.
