not a bad few

was out in Sycamore (read: bumblefuck) last Friday and had an amusing, though baffling, time hanging with Accountamatrix, Thespa, and some other people i was meeting for the first time. it was very - domestic. Norman Rockwell even: lotsa trucks; one-horse town with A blink-length main drag; very amicable but simple people; children; gargantuan ( Read more... )

Sycamore is not bumblefuck. Sycamore is not 'rural'. It's a small town grafted onto a college town.

I' glad you liked the place, but get some perspective dude. Just because there's *GASP!* SPACE between the cities doesn't mean you're in bumblefuck.

Bumblefuck is several miles west of Sycamore. But next time yer out that way we should definitely hit Lord Stanley's for a beer and a blue cheese burger. :)

oh, i grant, i'm embellishing - a touch. but Sycamore is certainly more rural than Naperville. 'course, it's not as rural as, say, Genoa, another of my haunts. what's the college near Syc?

that bleu cheese burger sounds great right about now. with extra onions

Yes, Sycamore is in fact more rural than one of the most urbanized areas on the planet. I do agree with you there.

That don't amke it "rural". Genoa is pretty rural, but drive another 5 miles down to Kirkland or Kingston or Faredale even, and you'll understand the difference. Genoa actually has some industry and a McDonalds. What I'm pointing out is that your sense of rural vs city is completely whacked. You grew up in spitting distance of Oz. You are WAY deep into the urban side of the bell curve. EVERYTHING is rural compared to the citystate of Chitown.

Which college? Um... Dude, it's cheek by jowl with Dekalb. I mean, you drive down DeKalb Avenue in Sycamore and when you pass the Culvers/Church/Farm-n-Fleet it turns into Sycamore Road in DeKalb. NIU is in Dekalb.

The man speaks the truth, Jonney-boy.

I'm trying to integrate him slowly. My next apartment may very well be in Kingston (what a plesant little town) so he'll have to come visit me there. Of course, Oregon, IL, is fantastic, but terribly far away from anyone I know.

And John-corrections, 3 1/2 years, and ex-boyfriend.

i totally forgot about DeKalb. it's this odd entity floating somewhere between 59 and Iowa; i always forget it's not all that far away

and, i know Syc isn't all that rural - i matriculated in B-ton where the closest theater was in the middle of a corn-field

It's a small world, but I wouldn't want to have to paint it. samwize February 6 2007, 20:36:21 UTC
Heh. I used to work at STL whose office is basically in the parking lot of that theater.

Try Daniel Boone, not Lincoln. Old Abe was quite the city boy and left the country behind as soon as he could get his lanky lawbooks out of there.
