Tonight I got off work early and went to industry happy hour at a local bar (restaurant peeps get $1 off all drinks all week all day!) while I waited for Iris to pick me up. Iris used to be a stripper, and now she works as a server with me at the PD. Her friend was DJing at a club later and he was spinning some awesome house and trance! But first the three of us went to Grey's on Cap Hill and I had a really interesting drink made of gin, lemon, and muddled cucumber served up. It was very refreshing and smelled like something I would dab on my neck before having sex.

After leaving Grey's for the club on Cap Hill, I called my mom since she had left me a message. It turned into a shouting conversation between me, mom, and dad about the merits of me getting some sort of pills for the Swine Flu. Finally, dad (who was sort of grumpy about being woken up by mom's hysterics) took the phone and the two of us talked about how awesome it is to speak German and the total awesomeness of Seattle. He went to the University of Washington and majored in German so my migration here is a source of nostalgia for him. I laughed about living with two girls who don't shave their armpits and use crystals for deodorant. He commiserated about the hippie overload but then told me that my nose piercing was "primitive" and I was very pleased with my own personal growth that I pretty much told him that I don't care that he doesn't approve. Regardless, I won't tell him when I get my tattoo. But it's a huge step for me that I did something that my dad doesn't approve of and I don't give a shit.

Finally I hung up and went into the lounge where Iris' friend Claude was DJ'ing. OH GOLLY I love dancing! There were so many hot girls on the floor and I danced with all of them and with no one and just had fun. Iris also has a Cairn Terrier and we HAVE to go the dog park together because of my lifelong adoration of all Cairns. But the highlight of the night came when I had an hour long conversation with a homeless anthropologist drug addict. I will not recount the entirety of it here; suffice it to say he was totally the best conversation partner I've had in a long time. I gave him 20 bucks and I hope to run into him again.

I love living in Seattle because of all the varied types of people I run into. Tonight I had heartfelt conversations with a former stripper, a DJ, a neurologist, an anthropologist, a freelance photographer, and a 5 year old. Everyone was fucking chill and I learned something from each one of them.
