And even if you don't really have arm fat ... kyolicious August 17 2005, 19:47:17 UTC
There will always be the "other girls" who will try to make you feel bad anyway.

Example: I have very awkwardly proportioned arms. They're "normal" above the elbow and then descend into a nearly child-sized forearm/wrist/hand. It's inconvenient in itself to have tiny hands (harder to grab things meant for more adult finger-spans, ya know) but that's fine. It's just, if I don't wear sleeves, I think I look weird. I always try to wear at least 3/4 sleeves so that it makes my proportions look less awkward--it just looks incredibly unbalanced otherwise. And if I do wear something sleeveless (or short-sleeved), I can offset it with a bulky armband, bracelet, watch, or even gloves. Just anything that makes my lower arm look more proportionate to my upper arm.

So one day I'm out clothes-browsing and my mom points out something that she thinks is "cute". I say, "Yeah, but I can't wear anything sleeveless." Now, keep in mind I have also explained to her about how it makes me look awkward.

Her reply? "Well, you could always start lifting weights or something!"

Nice. She does that crap all the time, though.

i really hate it when parents, of all people, aren't sensitive to their children's image worries. particularly when they contribute to their kids' bad feelings about their image. it's frustrating that she didn't remember what you told her.
