Yes, this is my first recording in a while... ^^;;;
But I decided to do something slightly different. Instead of just playing something and recording it, I thought, "why not weave a [short] story around it?" So, here goes...
I was sitting at the bar, nursing my drink, listening to the excitement around me. I didn't really consider myself part of it, because I was alone, and not really a social person, so I was kind of just being there, and thinking of how I would be going home alone yet again. But my thoughts kept going back to the two dances I'd had earlier in the night...
The first one was with a strange girl. She was very reserved, and we started off together, slowly, dancing a two-step. Things picked up a little towards the end, but overall, I felt that this wasn't really the kind of dance I was looking for.
The second dance was much more interesting. This girl was also reserved at first, and we did a slow number, but things really came to a head towards the end, and I was sorry to have to leave her.
I drained my glass, savouring each drop slowly, and watched as the hands on the clock ticked and tocked their way towards closing time. Even though the bar was closing, I knew that I would come again soon, if only to dance again with someone else...
It's probably a cliche'd story, but.. it's interesting? You can download it
here if you'd like to.
If you want to find out more about the original Maple Leaf Rag, there's a pretty informative article on Wikipedia (including links to the score and some recordings)
here.
