Nabari no Demographics (Part Two)

I am still working my way through the qualitative responses, but I need to post something for my reflection this week. So here's a preview!

I still have four more essay-based questions that I need to data-fy and graph. And after that, I have interviews to read and review. So this information is going to keep coming in piece by piece.

This data is from a fandom survey I conducted between February 16th to February 23rd. I had a total of 86 respondents, but the essay questions were optional. I had 39 responses to the question "What drew you into the Nabari no Ou fandom?" Some of the responses contained more than one answer, so the sum of the responses is actually more like 55.

The main conclusion that can be drawn from this data is that people in the fandom really, really love the canon. This may seem kind of basic and intuitive, but there are many fandoms that exist primarily because of hate for the canon, love of making mockery of the canon, love of subverting and/or perverting the canon, etc. But Nabari no Ou fans just adore the canon.

Here's examples of the answers that are representative of each category on the graph.

Appreciation of the Canon:

"I was originally attracted to the art, but the story and characters made me want to participate in the fandom."

The Fandom Itself:

"One of my best friends loved it, and recommended it. I fell in love with the story and have loved it ever since. Clearly once you love a canon you must try out the fandom. It's really nice here <3."

Products of the Fandom:

“After getting to chapter 51, I needed cheering up. So I went looking for some happy fic.”

Influences from Outside the Canon or the Fandom:

“I had heard of the series beforehand, but I think that seeing how popular it was on 4chan, actually, drew me into it.”

I will save further examples, clarification, and deeper delver for my actual ethnographic report. But hopefully, more graphs such as this will continue appearing throughout the week.
