CHARACTER INFO
Character name: Anders
Character journal:
nyandersFandom: Dragon Age: Awakening
Point of Canon: After the Mother's defeat, before DA2 events.
Tattoo number: 13175
Appearance:
Here and
here.
Personality:
Anders is extroverted and outgoing, which greatly clashes with the strict and caged life in Ferelden's Circle Tower. Determined to reach freedom, he has made seven escape attempts and was dragged back to the Tower each time by the templars. Although he abhors templars and how (in his eyes) the Chantry twists Andraste's words to condemn future mages, he doesn't do anything about it because, as he told Justice, it's simply too much work. Not to mention too much of a risk. He's not someone like the Warden-Commander, who always has to be the helping hand and actually being able to do it. He just wants to be free.
Anders isn't by any means, rotten or selfish. Templars may brand him as a dangerous scamp, but Anders does have a good heart. He isn't going to abandon someone who needs help even if it may be the easier path. Throughout the game, he is shown to have a heart of gold. An example of that can be seen when he was first encountered by the Warden-Commander. If told to escape, he actually shows up again in the roof of Vigil's Keep, ahead of the Warden's party to warn them of the danger ahead. He admits that he didn't run away because he wanted to defend the people from the darkspawn. While Anders reacted casually to the ruined caravans and dead bodies found in the Wending Wood, he was shown to be horrified that the whole incident had happened over a mere misunderstanding, and wanted to make things right. Anders likes convenience and taking the easy way out on occasion, but never at the expense of innocents. When the darkspawn invaded Amaranthine, he was adamant on saving the city rather than burning it down, stating that they'd be "no different from the darkspawn" if they left Amaranthine to burn.
Always ready with a witty comeback, Anders comes off as sarcastic, snarky, and generally charming. He deflects most serious questions (and all questions he just doesn't feel like answering) with lighthearted sarcasm which can be rather annoying. He knows he can be annoying and does it on purpose to those who annoy him (especially self-righteous templars), making sure that he at least gets the last laugh.
Powers/Abilities:
Anders can summon an array of various elemental spells with ice and lightning being his personal favorites. Although he isn't above tossing a fireball or two, he is best at healing and providing support in battles. He is able to heal more than one person at a time, revive the unconscious (though not raise the dead), and shielding/warding certain attacks. In short, he has mastered elemental and creation spells, with some knowledge of primal (elemental), spirit and entropy magic. If you want specific spells, I can make a list.

...what? Where am I? [He glances around. This city isn't familiar to him at all. Then his gaze focuses on the strange device here. It's not magical, so he doesn't know what it is. Is this some sort of prank? A joke set up by Oghren and the Commander?] Maker, I knew I drank too much during celebrations but this is going a tad overboard!
[He drops the strange, newly discovered thing and notices that he no longer feels the familiar warmth in his pockets.]
Ser Pounce-a-lot? [No answer. He groans, clearly worried.] Oh, I hope he's still at the Keep...
Prose sample:
He's still in the Circle, having just been brought back from his 5th escape attempt. Despite being locked into solitary confinement, he's already planning for the 6th one. Sooner or later, the First Enchanter will have the Templars release him and he will get the usual nagging and finger wagging before he tries to escape again. He has already lived nearly the first twenty years of his life in this tower and he is not going to spend the rest of it here.
It's been about a day so far. On the bright side (the Circle is hardly bright to begin with), they do bring him food and Mr. Wiggums makes his nightly visit to the mage's cell. Anders loves this cat. Grumpy as one can be but once he receives the attention he wants, he returns it by giving affection of his own.
"Do you want to come with me next time, Mr. Wiggums?" he asks the cat as he gives him ear scritches. "Without an awesome mouser like you, the whole tower would be infested with rats! " Mr. Wiggums purrs which makes Anders speak again with a coo, "Well, it pretty much already is. They just wear big, clanky armor, don't they?"
"Be quiet," says a templar standing watch outside. "Maker, why does Irving always make excuses for him?"
Anders smirks, peeking his head over the little barred window on the door. "Don't know. But it sure saves me some time! Say, where's Rylock? She's much more chatty compared to you two. I just love the way she glares as she berates me with her sharp words. You two should learn from her. Expand your vocabulary past the Chant of Light!"
Anders can't help but chuckle when he hears the groan echoing from the templar's helmet. He steps back to take a seat on his chair with Mr. Wiggums on his lap demanding the attention that he (of course) deserves. "I'm guessing three days, gentlemen! Willing to make bets this time?"
Anything else: Buuuuuuuh...nope!
