Title: Children
Rating: PG just for safety's sake
Pairing: KangTeuk, ShiHan if you squint A LOT.
Summary: Watching your flock leave the nest makes you wonder if there's more to life.
Notes: I have this huge fetish for the Suju!family thing, which is pretty evident in everything I write for this group. It gets redundant after a while, but I love the fact that
they are pretty much out of the closet, no matter what Kangin says. And he should just accept it.
Kangin is good with children. It's evident during Adonis days, and it's evident now, when they're older and things aren't as good as they were back when they were thirteen and whole.
Eeteuk misses the days when his children were just children, still under his wing. But children grow up and leave the house, have children of their own. Or adopt his children. He's got some to spare. Hankyung and Shiwon make wonderful band parents. Shiwon is caring and loving. Hankyung is supportive and encouraging. He's proud of them. So very proud of the family they've cultivated and the fans that they brought to the Elf collective.
Still, Eeteuk longs for the days of their early success. Comforting the children when they felt overwhelmed, being able to fall into Kangin's arms after a long day at work, feeling invigorated by his strength. They're more separate than together now. Kangin has his own duties, Eeteuk has his. MCing, guesting, dancing, singing. All part of their job.
It's a late night when Kangin comes back to the apartment. Eeteuk is already in bed, whimpering slightly when Kangin lifts the covers and presses cold hands into his stomach. "Youngwoon..." he mumbles, snuggling into the arms he's been without for what seems like years. Usually Kangin stays in his own bed at night, unwilling to wake Eeteuk with his schedule. But they both have a break tomorrow, if only a short one in the morning. But it's enough for them.
Kangin is half asleep when Eeteuk pipes up, voice deep from sleep. "Youngwoon?" the voice is hesitant and unease crawls into Kangin's shoulders and arms as he tightens them around Eeteuk's waist in response. It's a tone that he doesn't hear from Eeteuk often. Not nowadays, after Eeteuk finally learned how to bring that bright joy and confidence in front of the camera into his real life. The timid Eeteuk of their debut days has only few occasions to rise and none of them had ever been of the good persuasion.
"What is it?" Kangin asks, voice gruff, though held concern. Eeteuk snuggles deeper in his arms, reassuringly.
"I was wondering..." a long pause, making Kangin think that Eeteuk has fallen back asleep. "I was wondering how you felt about kids?"
It's a sudden, unexpected sort of question and Kangin's head can't quite figure out what exactly Eeteuk is asking. They are band parents, they already had children. Is there something going on with management? Are they gaining more members?
The rush of words seems like a dam. Eeteuk has been thinking this through. "I met this girl. Her name is Jinni. She's wonderful. I really like her. She's understanding and beautiful. And I..." He stops abruptly, his arms tightening around Kangin as Kangin tightens himself around Eeteuk. What he's saying sounds almost like a breakup to Kangin, but he knows Eeteuk too well, has been with him too long to think of a life without his angel or that his angel could live a life without him. It seems impossible, but...
"Youngwoon?" Eeteuk exclaims, surprised when Kangin squeezes the breath out of him suddenly and with so much force that Eeteuk thinks that maybe one of his ribs broke. "Can't...breathe...?"
"You're leaving me?" Kangin's voice is breaking and Eeteuk struggles against the other's grip.
"No...no...Youngwoon...I can't..." the arms loosen and Eeteuk breathes again. There's heartbreak in Kangin's face when Eeteuk grabs Kangin's cheeks with his palms, forcing the younger to look at him. "Youngwoon? Do you seriously think I'd ever leave you? Leave us?"
"It's happened before..." Kangin isn't referring to Eeteuk at all and a small pain comes to Eeteuk's heart at the reference, but Eeteuk ignores it. This is different.
"I'm not leaving. Youngwoon. Look at me." Kangin meets his eyes. "I am not. Leaving."
"Then..." Kangin leaves the sentence unfinished.
"Jinni...she knows." Eeteuk explains. "I didn't have to say anything. She knew. And I told her that I've always wanted children. My own children. Not children that just need looking after because their parents are farther away than I am. Not children that are easily adopted into another country. Mine." He takes a deep breath. "Mine...and yours."
It takes a few seconds for the words to sink in. Eeteuk watches as emotions fly over Kangin's face. Confusion, relief, curiosity, love. "You want her to...?"
Eeteuk nods, letting bangs fall over his eyes. "If you want her to...she doesn't mind." When he sees Kangin open his mouth, Eeteuk hurriedly adds. "It doesn't have to be now or anything. We're both very busy and there's no way we can take care of a baby, not how we are right now. And we haven't even gone into the military yet! So...I mean, later. when we get the chance and everything. You know, maybe..." Eeteuk's gaze drops again. "Maybe you'd like to have one. With me." His eyes closed tightly.
Kangin tilts his head. "Is this what you want?"
"Yes." The voice is small.
"Then it's what I want."
Eeteuk's head shoots up. "Really?" His eyes are bright, hopeful and Kangin nods, smiling as Eeteuk launches himself at Kangin, the two of them tumbling to the ground.
After some generous thank yous on Eeteuk's part--not all of them vocal--the two of them lay in silence on the bed, lost in thought. "I think we'll need a bigger house." Eeteuk muses out loud.
"Why do you think that?"
"Well, we've already got thirteen, why stop at one more?"
This is where Kangin starts freaking out.
posting this before i run off to class, a lot of errors, but hopefully not enough to make it unreadable :D
