Crimson eyes flashed over the wide expanse of green and on the small town nestled within. Beyond, she could see the rough waves of a shore, the scent of the sea carried on the wind. La Push, home of the shapeshifters. She had heard of them through the grapevine; covens who had come to defend the vegetarians that lived within the confines of this small town. Large wolves that had even the Volturi shaking in their decaying robes. It sparked her curiosity. She wanted to see these fearsome beasts.
A hungry growl erupted from her left and she closed her eyes, letting her mate slide his arms around her, holding her tightly against him. "Patience, my love," she admonished, a smile breaking her solemn expression. He was constantly hungry and only her presence kept him from attacking at random. It wouldn't do to attract unwanted attention.
"I can smell them," his low, rough whisper tickled at her ear, sending pleasant shivers down her spine. "They smell lovely."
She leaned back into him, reveling in the feel of his body against hers. "All in due time, my darling, all in due time."

Jacob ran through the forest with no real destination in mind. All he wanted was a reprise from the pain of losing Bella to that God awful leech and his perfect little world. With the rest of the pack all too happy to remind him of his loss, well...running seemed like a pretty good idea.
The edge of what he thought of as home was just up ahead, though Jacob made no attempt to slow down. He wanted out. Away. Far away. Watching them together broke his heart. How could he stand to be anywhere near them when all he could think of was his own rejection, his own pain and sorrow. He knew he was being selfish, but he really couldn't help it. Seeing what he couldn't have right in front of him every day...
Distracted by his thoughts, he almost ran into a human shape. With inhuman reflexes, he slid to a stop just inches from glowing red eyes.
