Title: Powers That Be
Rating: G
Pairings: None, although if you squint you might see a few...
Summary: Super powers are not so comic book as Super Junior thought it'd be.
Notes: My summary sucks and I'm so freaking bias in this even when I'm trying not to be. And so I fail. A lot. I was going to stop at just Eeteuk having powers (which is probably why his part is the best written, imo) but then I got to thinking that everyone else should have powers to and this is what turned out.
Eeteuk was the first of them to figure it out. Considering that he was the oldest and their leader, it shouldn't have been surprising. Nonetheless, it was quite by accident that he found out about it at all, the day he told Kangin, with much force and will, to 'get lost' and the other vanished right before his eyes.
Three days and several suicide attempts later, Eeteuk got a long distance call from Hawaii. It was Kangin, telling them to hurry up and buy his ticket home. (Apparently a few fangirls were keeping him hostage.)
He fooled around with it for the whole of two months, ordering around the others and delighting in the fact that they actually listened (Heechul being nice was actually quite scary). It was only when he carelessly told the whole room of them to leave him alone and the heartbreaking plea of 'come back' a second later that made him realize how careful he had to be.
It took a year for him to finally figure out how to control it, after he had forgotten himself (again) and sarcastically replied to Kangin's joke with a 'And that makes you what? A god?', which caused Kangin to start glowing and ascending before Eeteuk quickly amended 'I take that back. You're just Kangin.' (To which Kangin put him in a headlock for stopping his 'divine right of becoming the great Number One')
They learned that it was merely a matter of safety words and phrases that stopped Eeteuk from doing harm to others and himself (he gained a halo after introducing himself as the 'angel without wings'. Thankfully, he was able to correct himself with adding 'the human Eeteuk' so that the audience wouldn't have time to comprehend why Eeteuk had suddenly changed into white robes).
They finally decided on 'Kangin's chocolate makes bunnies cry.' (It was a combined effort)
With Eeteuk's example to follow, they all figured their own by accident or otherwise. Shindong found out about his in a rather death-defying sort of way. He had been on his way out for a mid-afternoon snack when Heebum had decided that running in front of Shindong at the top of a staircase would be a good idea. Seven flights of stairs later, Shidong was just a tad bit shocked to find himself still alive and uninjured.
Finding it not wholly unusual--others had survived more, he was sure--Shindong went about his daily life until Donghae had pushed him from behind and Shindong started bouncing around the dance room. "This is so not funny." Shindong told his hysterical bandmates after he could finally right himself. Unfortunately he was the only one who thought that way.
Henry finds out about his in the same death-defying sort of way. Except instead of stairs, he's falling off a balcony and oh, wait. Now he's not because he's flying and he has all of his hyungs looking at him with shock and Eeteuk practically breaks down and orders him back on the balcony and that he could never fall down again. Which is kind of interesting, because Henry could walk on walls and ceilings, but when he jumps, he just lingers there and can't come down until Eeteuk finally relents and allows Henry to fall back down again, but gently.
Donghae and Yehsung found theirs out about the same time. Donghae guessed his early on and only got to testing it when they were assigned to a photoshoot in a pool."Watch this!" Donghae grinned to his friends and jumped in. The others waited for a second and waited some more and when Donghae didn't come up for breath after a minute some of them started getting worried. But before Kibum could jump in to save their fishy (and Eeteuk could have a heart attack from worry), Donghae rose from the bottom of the pool and smiled cheekily. "Thought I was gonners, didn't ya?" Donghae bounced gracefully on the surface of the water. A second later, the water around Donghae turned to ice and they turned to Yehsung, who had a smug look and a glint in his eyes.
Though Yehsung was an easy natural and made snow during the middle of summer, it took a while for Donghae's to manifest away from a pool or faucet, but eventually Donghae could produce water of his own and did so frequently. The pranks were awesome, until Eeteuk restricted him for an entire week and Donghae had to pretend to be a human again (He secretly thought that his whole group had been experimented on by aliens and were no longer humans but a hybrid of some sort). It didn’t help that Eunhyuk’s powers turned out to be super-speed and he rescued Donghae many of times from the wrath of Kangin.
Zhoumi wasn't even in Korea when he stumbled upon his. Quite literally as he scrapped his knee on the rough ground, wincing slightly as rocks cut into soft tissue. The blood was almost too much to bear, but Zhoumi's fear of the alcohol wipes brought latent powers to full use and as one of the assistants started cleaning his wound, they found he actually had none.
A few more scrapped knees later (Zhoumi was, if anything, a very clumsy person) confirmed his initial guesses. It isn't easy, but he finally figures out how to use his powers on other people and he finds, to his dismay, that Super Junior was full of clumsy people.
And not a moment too soon as Heechul, who thought that it was ridiculous that he should not have found out his powers right after Eeteuk because damn it, he was the second oldest and the first prettiest (self-proclaimed) in the entirety of the group and that all of his dongsaengs were getting all the good stuff and he'd be left with nothing and just because Eeteuk had the gift of gab didn't mean that Heechul should be left wanting. In the middle of such a rant--his 52nd, not including the ones he left on his cyworld and private discussions with his mirror--he burnt the kitchen completely black and left Donghae and Yesung just a bit exhausted and Hankyung with pealing skin and a call to Zhoumi to get his butt over to Korea as fast as he could.
They weren't quite sure when Kibum found out about his, but they were certain of the day they found out about it. Shindong had asked, rather jokingly, that Kibum was so good that he could change the channel with his mind. When the channel actually turned, a few of them thought that it was just a fluke. But then it changed to a channel that they definitely didn't have with American people and American commercials. As a final test, Shindong asked for the security code for Eunhyuk's porn and Kibum rattled it off almost instantaneously after a brief touch to the desktop, Eunhyuk screaming something like 'I just changed that five minutes ago, there's no way!' as Donghae and Kangin rushed over to the computer to test the theory.
Kibum looked up at Shindong with a deadpanned expression. "Really. Try something harder, please."
Kangin's wasn't much of a surprise and was almost considered a coincidence. As per usual, he and Heechul were having it out on the breakfast table and Kangin, in a fit of rage (or maybe just to emphasize his point) hit the table with the palm of his hand and broke the table in half, causing massive amounts of fried rice to spill quite conveniently on Heechul, who went on a rage himself and almost burnt down the entire building (Safe to say that they weren't allowed in the kitchen anymore, per Hankyung's orders).
The broken table is ignored the first time, of course, because Kangin was unusually strong as it was. It's only after three tables (one being metal), thousands of broken cups, bent utensils and a bed (which had Eeteuk in it, strangely enough) that they realized that Kangin's strength wasn't quite normal.
Hankyung had been having headaches for months and it's when all fifteen of them are together in one room that he finally snaps. He tells Heechul to stop being an ass in his head and for Ryeowook to stop fussing and "God damn it, Kangin, you are not #1 anything!" There's a moment of silence and then an uproar in which Hankyung runs away crying and Shiwon comes back a few hours later, a bit shaken but with news that Hankyung can read minds.
Kyuhyun's seemed to manifest the most when he was asleep as Ryeowook woke up to find all of their things floating around their room. A few times Ryeowook would find himself in Kyuhyun's bed, which was weird at first because he didn't remember falling asleep there. When he's floated out of the toilet one early morning and into Kyuhyun's sleeping arms, Ryeowook is certain that Kyuhyun needs some help.
The freakiest was Sungmin's as he came down to breakfast and started sprouting out prophacies with a loud yawn. "You're going to drop the coffee pot, the phone is going to ring telling us of a change in schedule and Heechul might burn down the computer desk because he's mad at his game. Donghae, could you watch him, please? When he starts to smoke, just put him out." Yehsung blinked and laughed and accidentally dropped the coffee pot on his foot just as the phone rang and the smoke alarms went off. Sungmin just yawned and went to grab some breakfast as Eeteuk made a grab for the phone and Donghae rushed out to save whatever was left of their computer desk.
It's Sungmin's power that helps them figure out Ryeowook's. Ryeowook gets emotional easily and Sungmin predicts that it's going to rain whenever Ryeowook cries. It does and a lot more because now they're afraid of making Ryeowook angry because of the one time Donghae broke Ryeowook's piano, lighting struck through the dorm.
As the last of them, Shiwon thought he'd lucked out. Sure, it'd be fun to be able to order people around or be invicible to attack or be able to understand computers. He thought it'd be nice to be strong or know how to move things around with your mind or control the weather. And it'd be great once in a while to see what's going to happen just a few days down the road or be able to create water, ice or fire on a mere whim. But in all honesty, Shiwon didn't want any of that. He liked being his normal self, worrying only about every day life problems like what he was going to wear the following day, instead of worrying about people finding out and making him some sort of guinea pig for science or sick enjoyment.
Unfortunately for him, nature decided that he needed to be special for no apparent reason (Shiwon had a sinking suspicion that maybe nature was an anti-fan, or a really bad author with a sadistic crush on him).
"You suck." Was Kangin's response when Shiwon hung Kangin from the celing when Kangin threatened to put Shiwon into a headlock that might have killed him (Shiwon still didn't trust Kangin's control of his strength, not after he accidentally broke a wall that brought down a whole building). Outside rained for three days straight that was definitely not Ryeowook's doing, but probably instead because Shiwon wouldn't come out of his room or talk to anyone.
"It's some sort of high telepathy," Kibum said from beside his computer, hand only resting on the onyx keyboard while his eyes stared blankly at him. Shiwon isn't sure if Kibum's checking his memory or the internet. Either way, it's freaky. Considering that the computer isn't even on was another issue. "Or maybe the term psychokinesis might be a better a word, since you just made Donghae fall off of his chair."
Shiwon blinked stupidly and looked to the side where Donghae glared at him from the floor. "I'm sorry." He apologized only to get drenched in water seconds later.
He's not quite sure what Psychokinesis is, but Kibum assures him it's a good thing and Heechul is almost too eager to test his abilities when Shiwon realizes he can transport himself anywhere he wanted to.
They're a misfit bunch and it's hard to keep the fangirls from finding out, but they manage and when Donghae suggests they become super heroes, it's almost natural for them to agree. Because they were Super Junior already and Super heroes was just a word away.
