Title: See the Future (2/13): The Star
Rating: PG
Pairing: KiHae
Summary: Kibum's future. First chapter in the "See the Future" series.
Notes: After writing the fic for the challenge, the ideas came back to haunt me, so I decided to write companion drabbles to make the bunnies stop torturing me. I had some problems with this chapter, but hopefully it came out okay...

Prologue
Chapter One

EeTeuk can see the Future.

He can see that KiBum will live in the stars, a ball of light untouchable by others and blind to those around him. He can see that KiBum's coy smiles will make women around the world fall at his feet. He can see that KiBum's love will last forever if he'd just let himself be loved in return.

Kibum smiles for the lights, because that's what his smiles are for. They're for the fainting women and adoring fans. But when Kibum isn't in the lights, he fails to smile. Because smiling isn't something that Kibum does. It's something he's forced to do when the cameras are on and the lights are shining.

He is far from home and far from the comfort of familiar family and friends. He is a loner; always have and always will be.

It's no surprise when his self proclaimed adopted mother pulls him aside after a performance with genuine concern that makes Kibum sick.

"Kibum, are you okay?" Eeteuk asks and Kibum smiles his 100watt smile. Because his members are lights as well. A different kind of light, but light nonetheless.

"I'm fine, Umma." The teasing nickname calms Eeteuk down somewhat, but that concerned look is still there.

"When you're ready to talk, I'm here, alright?" Eeteuk leaves the offer as he moves to take care of the rest of his children and Kibum wonders when Eeteuk will start taking care of himself.

He comes home late that night, not surprised at all to see his apartment dark. HeeChul and HanKyung are out tonight; HeeChul with Shiwon and Shiwon with Hankyung. Leaving him alone in a large apartment. He wonders if they will ever figure it out but does not have much time to ponder it as he notices a small lump of human sitting outside his apartment doorstep.

"Donghae, what are you doing here?" Kibum asks with a frown, waking the slumbering Pinocchio.

Donghae yawns cutely and blinks away the sleep as he smiles widely at his Dongsaeng. "I'm running away from Kangin." Donghae responds in a whisper, as if afraid said Kangin were somewhere close. "Hide me?"

"Not this time." Kibum steps over Donghae's huddled form, unlocking the door. As he steps into his apartment, he finds himself followed closely by Donghae, who smiles at him cheekily. "Donghae. Out."

"But why?" Donghae asks with a face twisted into something resembling a kicked puppy.

"Because you'll end up replacing all of my things with foil hats again," Kibum lifts his fingers and starts ticking them off one by one. "Run around screaming about the aliens coming and invading, eat all my chocolate and then HeeChul's chocolate. Mess up HanKyung's kitchen..."

"Okay, okay, I get the point." Donghae rolls his eyes. "Fine, I'll go. Next time you see me, I'll be dead because someone wouldn't hide me from KangIn." The boy mumbles as he starts out the door, but stops at the entryway and turns around. "Aren't you going to stop me?"

It's Kibum's eyes that roll this time and he gives in, finally. Because really, he didn't want to see Donghae dead. Not because he is feeling a bit lonely. "Fine, come in."

And next thing he knows he has an armful of Donghae as the older launches himself back into the apartment and attaches himself to Kibum. "What are you doing?"

"Keeping a good hold on you."

"Why?"

"Because you'll float off into space if I don't."

Kibum frowns, not understanding what his hyung is saying, but strangely enjoying the arms around him. "Donghae, there's no such thing as aliens and they're not going to abduct me."

"That's not what I'm talking about," Donghae responds.

"Then what are you talking about?"

"Stars." Kibum frowns and starts to ask for an explanation, but Donghae's closing the door and leading him into the nearest bedroom.

They lay together, resting comfortably on Kibum's small bed, because that's what they usually do when Donghae comes over. Because Donghae can't sleep alone. Not when he's on one of his 'Alien' highs. "Donghae, what did you mean by stars?"

Donghae is silent and Kibum wonders if Donghae is sleeping. But then Donghae speaks.

"Because Kibummie is a star. A star that shines so bright, that I'm blinded by it." Donghae turns to him and Kibum can see that Donghae is serious. "And I'm afraid that you'll leave me behind."

Kibum is confused by this, but doesn't get any more from the other boy, because he hears pounding at the door and knows that it's Kangin.

He is confronted a few days later by Eeteuk, who asks him again if he is alright. Kibum wonders why Eeteuk thinks that there's something wrong with him. He has always been praised for his acting skills and knows that he has not done anything that would cause worry. He still smiles his 100watt smile, covering up the loneliness in his heart.

"What makes you think there's anything wrong, Umma?" This time Eeteuk isn't swayed by the title.

"I can see the future, that's why."

"What does the future have to do with me being alright now?" Kibum asks Eeteuk and sees the leader smile a sad smile.

"It has everything to do with it." Eeteuk gives him a peck on the cheek. "Just...remember that we love you, okay? All of us."

For some reason, his eyes venture to Donghae who sits laughing beside Eunhyuk. Eeteuk pats him on the shoulder, as if knowing something he did not.

Kibum shakes his head. He doesn't need love. He just needs himself.
