cheese restaurant...

...ecstasy. no, really.

the farmstead, in wayland sq. a laiterie, as they call themselves. :)

prices were a bit steep, but totally worth it.

it was a very impromptu dinner. some friends were already in wayland sq. studying (oh, finals), and they rang me up and said, hey, let's try that cheese restaurant. it's actually a restaurant and a specialty foods store, connected together. so we browsed the cheese and chocolate and munchies in the store while we waited to be seated. they have my favorite kind of olive oil biscuits! woes. i'm going to be so tempted to go there all the time and justify it as being a good, long walk (~40 min round trip)

i shared the supple, raw, and earthy cheese platter and the grilled cheese (brie and ham with a side of polenta fries and sweet pickles...!) with one friend, and the five of us shared an order of biscuits (i think they were chive and buttermilk). the cheese platter came with a little bowl of nuts toasted in herbs and sugar, a little bowl of honey and maybe apricot (though it was bright red, so i don't know) spread, as well as some tangy greens. mmm.

i also sampled my friends' orders including - the scallops (i don't like scallops, but i could have eaten these), the pumpkin and mushroom pot pie (i may get that one next time), the butter lettuce salad with cranberries and some cheese and a cornmeal biscuit and bacon (which was laid on top in a whole slab...slightly odd), and the pear and i think it was almond tart. and they had proper whipped cream. mmmm.

since we've got about six inches of snow and no sign of stopping soon, i'm not sure i'm going to go out and get dinner. i may just relive last night's dinner instead.

and then eat that cake i just made.

gah! go study! >_
