Writer: keeconk
Main characters: Chinen Yuri, Murata Hirona
Guests: Nakajima Yuto, Kawashima Umika
Teaser: Yuto and Hirona knew that they just have to actually do something that would make a difference to all this complicated situation.

------

Lately, he had been wondering. How did things become this way? Things were pretty simple for him, especially as a teenager. There wasn’t anything too overwhelming that he couldn’t handle, and as a normal teenage boy, Yuto didn’t understand why he had to go through this complicated teenage drama.

He leaned his rather lanky figure against the iron trail of the window in front of the infirmary room, eyes staring into the baseball pitch right before him, the baseball team practicing for their summer elimination stage - doing their best for the glory of the school. It was dry on the field, the orange-ish soil of the ground made him feel that this was a little bit too much for him to handle.

“… you’re kidding me?” a voice broke his little day dreaming, making him turning his body, leaning it against the column by the window as his eyes landed on a smaller sized boy that stood not far away from where he leaned his back on.

Agony. Yuto couldn’t make up his mind whether he should be intimidated, or he should feel that he was just dreaming and that all this wasn’t true.

“Oh Chii. I’m not stupid,” Yuto sighed.

“I don’t know what you’re talking about.”

When he agreed to play along with Hirona in this, he had no idea on how complicated things actually were. It took him awhile, but his common sense finally hit him and he could only curse to himself when he realised of how much of a mess he had got himself to. He never knew that this kind of thing would actually exist outside romance dramas that he watched on TV, or outside of his sister’s shoujo manga.

“I’ve known you for years, Chii. You think I wouldn’t notice it when something is totally off?” Yuto spoke up again.

He didn’t fail to catch the slight hesitation from his friend’s expression, knowing that this might be a lot more awkward than he predicted it would be. That day was wicked, overpowering him in so many ways with the misunderstanding around them. “I didn’t bring her here to see Umika because I wanted her to fight with her or anything. Just so they’d talk it out and realise of how much of a mess this is,” Yuto added.

There, the two of them standing by the infirmary’s door, letting the two girls to have their little small talk inside because Yuto believed that this was what they needed right now. Too many misunderstandings had emerged for the past few days, and the more they let it going on without trying to talk it out, the more things would get more complicated.

“I didn’t mean to drag her into this. I just wanted Hirona to notice me,” Chinen shifted his legs, walking in a small circle before coming back to where he originally stood.

“Bingo~!” Yuto posed a ‘bang’ with his fingers towards Chinen, the question that had been running through his head for awhile now had finally been answered.

Who was he kidding, anyway? It didn’t take a genius to realise of how a small little chat was needed right now, sticking to their egos that keeping this going without doing anything about it would solve things eventually. Total bull shit. They needed to work on it to solve it and stop being stubborn because all of them realise that they couldn’t let this going for too long.

“So what’s the deal?” Yuto asked.

“I don’t know.”

“Why did you even do this in the first place? Have you ever heard of something called, confessing your feelings the normal way? Like letters or whatever,” Yuto pointed out. “Things wouldn’t get this complicated if you decided to go the normal way.”

A small smile crept on his face when he saw how hard it was for Chinen to reply him back, knowing that the other person knew that he was right in everything he just said. This wasn’t a scripted drama, this was real life, and Yuto believed Chinen needed that wake up call.

------

Hirona sat by the bed, her eyes were down on her knees as she kept her head low, not wanting to say anything wrong at all. This was awkward, a lot more awkward than what she had anticipated earlier, but Yuto was right, they had to deal with this before it turned into something even uglier, too ugly that it might end up as something that all of them gonna regret. Not worth the drama, really.

“I’m sorry. I didn’t tell them to do any of this, but I’m sorry nonetheless,” Hirona mumbled.

She wasn’t particularly expecting any kind of answer from Umika, so when there was only silence filling the room, it didn’t make her feel like an idiot because there was a lot more she had to say to her anyway.

“So… yeah. There’s nothing between me and him. We were just acting it out. More like because you and Chinen are together. I wouldn't deny that it was the stupidest thing I ever did but I kind of wished you told me about your feelings towards him, so that we could at least have a healthy rivalry or something. I’m not saying that I approved what the other had done to you, but I don’t like what you have done either. Just wished there was more honestly between us,” she added.

There was a feeling of relief waving over her, the burden on her shoulder felt a lot lighter and her chest made her realise how easy it was to breath without have to worry whether she just made the biggest mistake in her life. She couldn’t play the victim all the time and it was time for her to stand on her own foot and set things straight by her self.

Standing up, Hirona fixed her skirt and headed to the door. She didn’t wait to hear what Umika had to say because she had made up her mind. She would tell her friends that they shouldn’t act based on their own accord anymore because she could handle this herself, like how every other girl should have done too, really, because there was nothing better than being honest.

When she walked out of the infirmary, she saw Yuto and Chinen standing by the big windows, the shorter boy looked like he was troubled while Yuto looked like he had always looked like. She smiled to Yuto, realising that she knew what having a real friend meant. She was glad that he was there for her, helping her to go through her trouble and deal with it, and not acting like he knew it all and just judged people right away like how the girls had done.

Who said friendship between a girl and a boy was impossible?

“I told her,” she said to him.

“Awesome~. Then we got this settled?” Yuto asked, almost as if he didn’t care if Chinen was there with them.

“Not exactly, but she knew how I feel about this whole thing. And when I feel like I’m ready, I might need to have a little conversation with Chinen-kun,” she turned to Chinen.

“Perfect~. That’s my girl,” Yuto grinned. “In totally a girl friend sense of course,” he added, making her giggle a little at his follow up line.

The two of them walked away side by side, smiling to each other because this felt a lot better than before, showing the boy that they left behind how the two of them were pretty cool about things and didn’t want to think too much about it any longer. She believed she might lose a friend, or more, after being all honest, but she at least got a new one that she knew would be there for her.

She was ready to face whatever gonna come after this.

I just thought that the story has to take a turn soon and someone in the story just have to do something. I'm pretty much into girl and boy friendship, and judging from the previous chapters, it seemed to be do-able for Yuto and Hirona. I'd be waiting of how Chinen and Umika react in future chapters~ :) I hope it wasn't too off or anything.
