I took the in-person proctored exam at a test centre last Friday (12 Aug 2022) and decided to share my approach towards the Power BI certification exam. Sharing a screenshot of the actual certification when one cleared the actual exam
Here are the tips for clearing the Power BI exam on the first try:
1) The must-use first resource is definitely Microsoft Learn materials at
https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/certifications/exams/pl-300 (includes doing the lab exercises a few times if needed in all the learning paths). Topic spotting is near impossible as the actual , so you must study the whole syllabus.
2) The Power BI exam study guide is a good checklist to use when doing your studies. The direct link is at
https://query.prod.cms.rt.microsoft.com/cms/api/am/binary/RWREll 3) Besides Power BI Desktop, knowledge of Power BI Service (app.powerbi.com which requires a Microsoft account to log in) is also needed as exam questions on using workspaces and dataset management in Power BI Service are also seen.
4) Recurring concepts seen in the actual exam questions:
- Visuals (specific uses, how to create the visuals by selecting relevant fields),
- DAX expressions, row-level security (RLS);
- Power Query Editor in Power BI Desktop for ETL purpose (must know how to use)
- Workspace and dataset management (different types of members, how to share workspaces, add/remove users etc.)
- SQL (WHERE clause, types of joins such as left/right/outer/inner), Azure SQL Database; and
Case study with lists of technical and business requirements. One case study may have about 5 to 8 questions.
5) I paid for the Skillcertpro Microsoft Power BI Data Analyst (PL-300) Exam Questions 2022 to practice at
https://skillcertpro.com/product/pl-300-exam-questions/. Some questions from Skillcertpro appeared in the actual exam.
