Why Not?

Well, it's been another one of those months... the fuel pump went out on our van, which cost about $225 just for the parts; luckily my ex-step-son*  was able to come up and help me put it in which prob'ly saved another $400.

*My first wife had a son (David) by a previous marriage; he was 4 when we got married. She and I had a son together (Jeremy). After we divorced, I remarried and my second wife also had a child (Alisha) from a previous marriage - her bio-father was dead, so I was the only father she knew from about age 8 on. Now that they're all grown, the one we see the most and who is the most attentive and helpful is David, who is no blood relation to either of us. He affectionately calls my wife his "double-step". Life works out in strange ways.

Anyway, we lost our upright freezer - and about $500 worth of food - and our main TV in one of the outlying thunderstorms of Irene. We do have insurance but there's still that $500 deductabe.

Leah (my wife), who has MS, has pretty much lost the ability to walk now, so we had to get her a power chair. Medicare paid, but there's still that pesky co-payment, plus insurance doesn't pay for accesories, like a ramp to get the chair in the van. We also have to build a ramp to get into and out of the house. David's going to help me with that, but there's still about $800 to come up with for the materials... we've got applications in to various grant programs but we really can't wait that long and we're trying to find out if we borrow the money, buy the materials, and then get approved for a grant, can we get the money back we paid up front?

Ah, well, could be worse. Could be boring.

On the bright side, only a week and two days until the new CM season starts, so, yay!
