Interesting. I got the DW installments back when they came out, and listened to them again recently before selling them on. I think Excelis Dawns was my favorite both then and now just for the quality of the dialogue - Iris is a TERRIBLY irritating character in most of her book appearances (I always got the impression Magrs would rather be writing for her than the Doctor), but she's just daffy enough in Big Finish I never take her too seriously. Plus, she and Davison's Doctor are a nice pairing of opposites. The story, unfortunately, is a simplification of Magrs' novel Verdigris, right down to the handbag revelation!

I was never too inspired by either Rising or Decays - in fact, I specifically remember having to admit disliking the latter to Craig Hinton, having just lavished praise on his two Virgin Missing Adventures. Oh well. Can't win 'em all.

Never did hear Plague Herds. Would you say that one ties up enough loose ends I should try and borrow a copy, or something? Or is it pretty skippable? Clearly it never bothered me enough ( ... )

I must say I felt it was pretty skippable. I may feel differently after I've listened to a few more Bernice Summerfield plays, but it didn't grab me enough to recommend strongly.
