I seem to remember reading a Finn Mac Cool book by Rosemary Sutcliffe, called The High Deeds of Finn Mac Cool.

I had that Rosemary Sutcliff book as a child, it's not bad at all. It covers most of the main stories in the Fiannaíocht. Morgan Llywelyn apparently also has a novel Finn MacCool which presumably is another version of the legend.

I loved Rosemary Sutcliffe as a child. I should really get my hands on some of her material again if I ever have time.

I'm no gaelgeoir, but the anglicised version of Fionn Mac Cumhail's name is really horrible looking.

I think maybe my reaction is extreme and irrational... it's not like I object to anglicisation of placenames.

Mark Durkan has a line about a DUP councillor who was getting all upset about the potential for increased official use of Irish, and declared on behalf of himself and his constituents that "They'll never put a Gaelic name on Drumnamallagh!"
