The film is actually pretty okay. Not great, but okay.

My favorite Clowes is Like a Velvet Glove Cast in Iron

I can't but think that a lot of the appeal of Ghostworld comes from its having two teenage girls as the main characters.

I used to find GW pretty disposable when episodes of it would come up in Eightball. The weirder Clowes stuff is more my thing... Velvet Glove or David Boring, say. There were two very good self contained Eightball stories recently... the one about the town where a boy has gone missing (can't remember its name), and the one about the guy with the death ray, who develops super strength whenever he draws on a cigarette.

The film has a stupendous soundtrack, a great performance from Steve Buscemi, and two nice pieces of eye-candy (Scarlett Johansson and Thora Birch). Alas it doesn't make you like or sympathise with anoyne.

The opening five minutes with the sublime Bollywood classic "Jaan Pehechaan Ho" are a brilliant opening. From there on it's just teen angst and slacking with a good record collection.

Nice way to pass a couple of hours but only the music resonates.

The film was a kind of girls' 'Withnail and I', which, while not nearly as funny or quoteable, was very likeable.
