The whole thing made me realise just how true to the series' traditions "Rose" was.
The great thing about RTD’s rejuvenation of the series is that it is so true to the traditions of the series in its heyday (pretty much before Tom Baker’s last series). He has brought back the magic it had when Hartnell and Troughton were in the Tardis. It was so striking that the Daleks we had last year were recognisably the Daleks we had seen in the Sixties: bad, mad, and very dangerous. That was some relief after them being nothing more than Davros’s stooges for years. I can’t wait to see what the Cybermen are like this weekend. On Saturday nights, it’s like being six again. :o)
He has also managed the trick of having good first stories for his Doctors, which no Doctor after Pertwee really had. when Robot was broadcast, some of us worried that the series was going down the pan; fortunately, The Ark In Space came right along to reassure us that it was still worth watching

The icon: I decided I needed just one Doctor Who icon since I do a lot of DW related posts, and to have more than one icon for them will inevitably lead to madness! (Also the First Doctor will never go out of date.)
the Doctor, Harry and Sarah running around a quarry It has been observed, by uitlander and others, that there don't seem to be any quarries or gravel pits in the new Who universe. It's very disappointing!
a robot reminiscent of Graeme Garden's computer from the Goodies There was a nostalgia documentary about The Goodies on over Christmas. Apparently it was a very expensive show for the BBC to produce; I wouldn't be that surprised if they re-used the robot!
...just how true to the series' traditions... This is particularly true of Rose, and there seem to have been more, less direct, nods backward in this season so far (e.g. not just Sarah Jane, but also that line when she's in the TARDIS: "You've redecorated, haven't you? ... I preferred the original ... " - very much like Troughton in The Three Doctors/The Five Doctors). Tonight's episode, while in some ways obviously related to The Tenth Planet and a Big Finish Audio whose name I forget, reminds me also of Inferno from its trailer (and with those Zeppelins, Philip Pullman too ...)
