What should I read in 2015?

Once again, I found your votes very helpful in leading me to interesting reading in 2014, and I would once again very much appreciate your advice on what books to read next, by filling in this poll. This is not the complete contents of my unread shelf; I've stripped out all books by white men which I acquired before this year. The books are listed ( Read more... )

For the last several years you have been reading lots of books I read in my youth, but this looks like a year when you are reading in years when I was not. I have ticked very few boxes this time, although several (Tove Jansson, Doris Lessing) are on my shelves waiting to be read. I've read at least some of Woolf's essays which are probably in the Selected Essays, but otherwise all my non-fiction ticks are 'sounds interesting ( ... )

A strong poke for 'The Lowest Heaven', as a friend of mine has a story in it.

I have not yet read 'Expo 58' but it's in the pile. I keep saving it for a treat. I should stop that and just read the thing.

Strong recommendation for The Shadow of the Wind. As you may know it's the first published in a series of four (we are still awaiting the fourth) although the publication order does not correspond to the chronology of the story. I will find it interesting to re-visit all of the series in order when it is completed.

My recommendation for Family Britain is based on a reading of Austerity Britain a few years ago. Another series that seems to last longer than the author originally planned!

Seconded on The Shadow of the Wind. I love that book, but haven't got round to the rest of the series yet.
