This category was basically set up as the Buffy category and has become the Doctor Who category, though it should be noted that DW has only ("only") won it six times in the last eight years, losing to Dr Horrible in 2009 and to the Blackwater episode of Game of Thrones last year. This year there are two real Who episodes, two non-sf dramas about ( Read more... )

Although you are right that the episode of OB nominated is atypical, one of the things that is particularly fantastic about the show is that the clones change the nature of the show. So when the show focuses on Sarah/Beth it's a police procedural, just Sarah it's a thriller, Cosima it's a technothriller.. and Alison it's a suburban comedy drama.

Orphan Black is in fact awesome, not that I think for a moment you should change your vote.

I will note that the part of "Minnesota" is played by several campus quads at the University of Toronto. I remember being at SCA events at a couple of those.

Another vote for OB. But really it would have to be one of those ones where the whole season gets entered as one. Its all arc!

Yes, Orphan Black is brilliant, but it's so unepisodic that the whole season should have been nominated in the "long form" category. (I'm sure I've heard of that happening before, and if the whole of The Wheel of Time can be nominated for the Best Novel category whole TV seasons must be acceptable.)

A thought - when the Retro Hugos get to 1967 how about a Long Form nomination for The Prisoner?

Can't be done, unfortunately. "Fall Out" was actually nominated for Best Dramatic Presentation in 1969, and lost to 2001: A Space Odyssey. And you can only award Retro Hugos for years in which there were no real Hugos but there was a Worldcon. Nice thought though.

"Rare case of the televised version being an improvement..." We're counting GoT as just one example, then, not 34 and counting? :D

(OK, I can't actually speak to that, strictly speaking, as I gave up on the books very early on, after having the first one pressed on me by a GRRM fanatic housemate, and sadly I'm missing series 4, having defected from Sky recently.)

Just checked out your self-nommed appearance, in play-pause-play slomo on vimeo. Don't gush too much on your acceptance speech!

I'm feeling behind the times. Our next episode of Game of Thrones is Blackwater. No spoilers please.
