It's perversely heartening to see that the UK is not the only country that suffers from daft public transport decisions. I have to confess, the final para raised a smile - I'm surprised they didn't put you through to Cutts the Butcher.

Don't know how functional or effective such things are in Belgium but this is the kind of widespread local inconvenience that your local MP might be able to start campaigning about.

Indeed, and/or the local council. But in my initial flush of anger I wanted to see how far I would get as a single consumer before I start strategising for the medium term.

Ah yes, another reason to live in the city.

Where we cycle and walk because of a strike of mivb/stib personnel.

Try contacting Trein Tram Bus (http://www.treintrambus.be/), it is an organisation that represents the passangers of public transportation.

"TreinTramBus represents the Flemish public transport users on the advisory councils of De Lijn (Flemish busses and tramways) and the Belgian Railways, the Brussels mobility council and a number of other regional and local advisory bodies. "

They can’t act immediately on your behalf but they combine complaints and can put pressure on the NMBS.

btw: Also, definitely complain about the way you were treated! That is something they don’t like at all.

Thanks - that is really useful. pvaneynd also recommended the NMBS Ombudsman, but I want to see how far I can get as an angry consumer first.
