I am not surprised that Herman Van Rompuy, who has been prime minister of Belgium since the turn of the year, is the front-runner for the first EU presidency now that Vaclav Klaus has signed the Lisbon Treaty.

Another reason to choose a prime minister from the Benelux, and more specifically Belgium is symbolic: the EU started out with these three countries, mostly under impulse of the Belgian government.

Milliband's a disaster foreign secretary, especially in the way he's been dealing with the ongoing Russian extradition thing, he'd be terrible in a more important international role.

I vote Patten or Ashdown, but then I would wouldn't I.
