I was fascinated to learn, via me good friend Fraser Cameron's op-ed in today's NYT/IHT, that Livejournal's popularity in Russia goes right the way to the top: blog_medvedev is President Medvedev's account. That was quite interesting, actually - I shoved the text of his speech through Google Translate, since I only know a few words of Russian and can just about slowly figure out a rough pronunciation when I'm reading, and I was quite impressed with the intelligibility of the translation. The biggest glitch was "старт-апы" coming out as "start-apy" - going by the context and from hearing him say it, I presume it's supposed to be "start-ups". Though I'm very impressed with "электронного правительства" being translated as "e-government".
