Title: Vessel Fandom: Supernatural Character: Castiel. Sort of. Spoilers: 4.1 "Lazarus Rising" (character identity spoiler only) Rating: R, violence, language Synopsis: What makes a man so devout ( he prays to be possessed by... - slightly spoilery )
I found myself fascinated by Castiel from the first moment he appeared, but also fascinated by the gloss-over of the vessel (which I'm sure they just threw in there so it wouldn't seem so creepy, but, well, it still kinda is).
Love this! Possibly inspired by this season of SPN, I finally watched my DVD of "Wings of Desire" the other night. That's all about an angel (perhaps not coincidentally named Cassiel) who wants to be human. But I really hadn't thought about the guy who wanted to be a vessel for an angel.
But I really hadn't thought about the guy who wanted to be a vessel for an angel.
It struck me that "devout" didn't quite cover the level of commitment there, and somehow I couldn't imagine someone less weirdly intense than Castiel himself. (Maybe it's just that I love his weird intensity so much.)

And it gets to the heart of what people ask every day. Why was I spared? Why am I suffering? What has G-d chosen me/not chosen me/singled me out?
Personally, I think to try to divine the will of G-d is to invite madness. Which is what happens here, I think.
I will think about this for a long time.

I just had to find out his story, and that's how it made sense to me.

Have you ever seen The Rapture? It's one of my favorite movies, and this reminded me of it...

I have seen that movie, but not for a long while. One of the actors in it is Will Patton, who played one of my favorite characters I wrote for on RH.
