Who remembers getting those small paper catalogues from Schaolastic as a kid? They would show the latest books to come out for us kids, and you could order the books. Needless to say I got tons of books that way, and my favorite series was Everworld, a story about a group of kids who get sucked into the titular dimension and find it to be a haven for bored gods. Odin, Thor, Zeus, Shiva, they're all there kicking it old school because humanity has forgotten about them. So in other words we literally have Vikings attacking the Aztec at one point (yeah it was pretty badass).
So now I come to the point of my late-night and long overdue journal entry. Back when Everworld hit about the middle of the series, they offered a small 4-track CD along with one of the books. It was kind of silly, looking back, because somehow this music was supposed to relate to a dimension that is literally insanity incarnate with Vikings and shit thrown in. I, however, was just getting into music on my own at the time. Before that I had just listened to whatever my mom or dad had on (Hence my love for Bowie, Rush, Led Zeppelin, etc etc), but this small CD, along with Chumbawumba's only American release, was my first foray into independent musical taste. The CD had 4 songs that I still like to this day: Touched by VAST, Aftertaste by Reveille, Walkabout by DDT, and Just Go by Staind. Now, everyone has heard of Staind. They're not incredibly popular but they're a good band. No one I know listens to VAST unless I make them, which sucks because VAST is one of those bands that will always be close to my heart, even if I don't listen to it as often as Zappa or The Mars Volta. VAST is popular in an underground sense, but several shades of music removed from what we tend to listen to. Now, DDT is an enigma. I really like the song, but I absolutely cannot find anything by them. I once downloaded a DDT Discography, and it turned out to be a Russian band >.<.
Now, we come to Reveille. Aftertaste is a really good song, so you can imagine how psyched I was when I FINALLY found Reveille on eMule, and they had not one album, but TWO.
Cue the shrieking cry of reality unwinding.
Reveille's actual music is nothing like what Aftertaste had me believe. I had imagined them being a gloomy hard-rock group, kinda like Emil Bulls' more mellow songs. Instead, they're fucking RAPCORE. Bad rapcore (Yeah I know that's kinda of redundant). Like if Emil Bulls snorted coke for two weeks straight and then decided to eat tinfoil and slam their heads into the hood of a car while they recorded an album. I am so unimaginably pissed right now. Maybe I would be less so were my body smart enough to let me sleep due to how fucking tired I am, cuz, yanno, it IS just a band and a song. So what if one group out of the 200+ I have in my collection turns out to suck? But it boils down to this: a piece of the childhood I can't even remember just literally died. I know alot of people bandy that phrase about to be funny, but I'm serious.
Meh, my eye is twitching now. Time to bury my face in a pillow until I pass out sometime after dawn.
