With regard to the choices, they're obviously all personal decisions and difficulties and experiences, but travelling to multiple countries is one that is most illustrative. Now when I think of travelling to a different country in western europe, in terms of the financial outlay involved, I think of it with no more concern than I would for a trip from Bombay to Pune. And this, as a student! Of course, crossing continents is still expensive, but still doable. As a working man, with fairly good finances, you could argue that this is the same for you. But remember, I'm a student!
Another choice is that of a career. If, at your current age, you felt that Astronomy, and not programming, is what you really really want to do, then how easy is it to get back into uni? Forget about the social hurdles, even the administrative and technical hurdles of starting a fresh academic career are daunting (I can't really give you more detail on that, without violating confidences ;-) )
Again, to the really determined, all of this is possible in India. All I'm saying is that I want to make it easier for others. I don't have any answers, just a goal.
