Killing some vampire bats

I suppose I have now officially been sneaking around LJ for one year! I had discovered this amazing thing called fanfiction that allowed me to continue enjoying some of may favorite movie/television characters and storylines through some pretty phenomenal writing. But the more I read, and the more I realized that some of these people really should think about writing something they can get paid for, the more I wanted to be able to comment and tell them that!

I know I could comment anon when allowed, but that just always seems a little too stealthy for my tastes. So I cracked a week ago and created this profile so I could finally come out into the open and give some much due praise to some fantastic writers!

But if I'm going to be completely honest with myself here, I'm also secretly harboring a desire to flex my own creative talents. I randomly took up painting a couple years ago, and while my work is far from stellar, I very much enjoy the confidence I get every time I look at something I created.  I've always been a writer. I wrote poetry as a child and countless short stories and essays - some that even won awards. But over the years, my creative writing has taken a back seat to the realities of college, professional life, and now graduate school. Writing about politics just isn't the same as a good mystery, adventure, or romance (though politics certainly does encapture all of the above!). So I guess that starting this profile is also a hope - a really big hope - that "going public" in the fanfiction world will help light the fire under my own pen.

That being said, I have no real idea how this LJ thing works. My apologies for the lack of pretty pictures or links and the like. While I'm really not that old, I did grow up using a type writer and am unfortunately still much more comfortable with that bit of technology! But I'll do my best and see where this takes me.
