Title: Third Time's a Charm
Rating:
K+
Fandom/Pairing: The Closer; Pope/Raydor
Word Count: 550
Author’s Note: This is my first Closer fic, so I’m new to writing these characters. Hopefully I didn’t screw up too bad. Unspecified setting, though you could imagine it somewhere after the end of season 6.
I want to note that I have a hard time accepting the Pope/Raydor relationship, mostly because I don’t trust Pope’s unfaithful ass farther than I can throw him (which is not at all) but also because I think Raydor’s too smart to fall for that and, given her speech to Johnson about sleeping her way to the top, I don’t think Raydor would easily consider a relationship with a superior…but that’s why this is fiction ☺

“You’re dating Raydor!”
“Now, Brenda.”
“Don’t you dare ‘Now Brenda’ me Will Pope! I cannot believe you! How could you do this to me?!”
“To you? What in the world does this have to do with you Brenda?”
“Everything, Will. Just everything! You know that woman makes my life miserable. She takes over my crime scenes, disparages my team, thinks FID’s so much better than Major Crimes and now you’re dating her! How could this be any worse?!”
“You probably don’t want me to answer that.”
“Aren’t there rules against this? Wait, what do you mean I don’t want you to answer that? Does it get worse, Will?”
“Well that depends on your perspective. I think it gets rather better.”
“She’s pregnant, isn’t she? Oh my goodness!”
“No! She is not pregnant Brenda. She’s a little beyond…never mind. Look, all you need to know is that I care about Sharon a great deal. A really great deal. I haven’t felt this way in, well maybe ever. And I’d like it if you could be happy for me. But frankly, Brenda, I really don’t give a damn what you think.”
“Oh, well for heaven’s sake!”
“Can we get back to this case now, Brenda?”
“Fine. But if you take her side on this because she’s your girlfriend…”
“I am not taking sides. FID goes first, you know the rules. Figure out how to work together. And she is not my girlfriend.”
“She’s not? Then why did she show up to the crime scene in your car, wearing a rather risqué little red dress and your cologne?! Are you just using her for sex! You never change, Will!”
“I said she’s not my girlfriend, Brenda. That does not mean I am using her for anything. If you must know, Sharon and I are engaged. She’s my fiancé.”
“Your f…, oh, well that’s…that’s wonderful Will. Congratulations. I mean, really, that’s just great.”
“Really? You’re okay with this?”
“No. I mean, yes. I mean I’m happy for you but I still don’t understand why her. She’s totally not your type. She’s so, so difficult.”
“Haha, exactly my type. Brenda, Sharon is amazing. She’s relentless in her work, and I get that can be difficult for you, but she is that way because she cares so much about what she’s doing, what FID stands for. And I love that about her. I love how stubborn she is when she’s right and how loyal she is to her team and the LAPD. I know you don’t see it, Brenda, but Sharon Raydor is everything we need in an Officer. And even more, she’s everything I need in a partner. She’s warm and strong, compassionate and damn intelligent. She doesn’t back down when I get petty and she doesn’t push when I need space. She’ll let me fall on my face because I always need to learn the hard way but she’s always there to help me back up. I love her, Brenda and I’m going to marry her, and this time it’s for life.”
“Well then Will, I really am happy for you. And for Sharon. And I look forward to getting to know the woman who’s finally done what none of the rest of us could.”
“What’s that?”
“Make you admit you get petty.”
“Brenda….”
